ONABOTULINUMTOXIN-A is the active ingredient in Botox*. The treatment involves several tiny and virtually painless injections into certain facial muscles to block the nerve impulses that cause muscle contraction. The resulting relaxation of these muscles diminishes the look of lines and wrinkles. The target area for Botox* Cosmetic is the forehead, the "worry lines" between the brows, and crows feet around the outer eyes toward the temples. Additional treatment areas can include the lines above the upper lip (smokers lines), and the two bands that stretch the length of the neck vertically. This simple injection is performed in the office and takes about 15 minutes. The results last approximately 3 months. Consecutive treatments tend to have a longer lasting effect and eventually the time between treatments can be increased resulting in less treatments required to maintain the results.
As with all injections, there is always a risk of bruising, bleeding, swelling, and/or tenderness at the injection site. Although not guaranteed, it can be advisable to refrain from blood thinners and alcohol for up to one (1) week prior to treatment in order to minimize the chances of bruising or bleeding.
Juvederm* injectables are specially formulated hyaluronic acid fillers that are injected into target areas in order to plump or fill areas of the face that have deeper lines or have a hollowed appearance. Target areas include the cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds (lines on the sides of the mouth and chin), and temples.
Depending on the treatment area, level of movement, and metabolism, the results can last from 6 to 18 months before the need for subsequent treatments is required.
